8 million tons of plastic are released into our oceans every year. That is about as much as if a truckload of plastic waste was dumped into the sea every minute (source: original-unverpackt.de).
This sad fact makes many people reflect a little more and triggers the desire to make a difference by themselves. The first step is to create the awareness that everything we consume and throw away needs energy to be produced and destroyed. Zero-waste stores offer you the opportunity to buy plastic-free and sustainable.
Bern is lucky enough to have a zero waste shop as well. Palette has been open since 2017 and sells unpackaged, organic food as well as hygiene and care products on Münstergasse. Whenever possible, local products are preferred.
It is best to bring your own containers, which can be filled with the desired amount of different products. The staff is very friendly and will be happy to show you how the system works in Palette. If you make a spontaneous purchase, you can also buy or rent containers.
On the website, you will find a transparent assortment list with all the necessary information about the suppliers and the type of packaging.
I think the concept is great and I like to do zero-waste shopping. This not only gives me the feeling of doing something good, I also know that I'm buying high-quality food. That makes cooking and eating twice as fun!
