I am not a fan of German food, especially because it's really meat-based. But if you want to try traditional Colognian food, there is just one place to go.
The brewery has exists for over 111 years and is driven by tradition. Of course you get endless Kölsch beer, but in this brewery you can also get really good "kölsch" food.
The most famous is their "Himmel un äd", which is fried black pudding with potato and apple. Also worth trying are the "Reibekuchen", "Rostbraten" or "Halver Hahn".
Be aware that planning on only drinking a few beers won't work. In Cologne breweries it's common to get a new beer after finishing your last. Of course without ordering.
Maybe that's the reason "Haus Scholzen" sometimes turns into a little party full of people of every age, and that's another thing you will notice when you spend time in traditional Cologne spots---everyone is drinking and partying together. It doesn't matter where you are from, how old you are or what you look like. And that's why I love to live here!!!
So if you want to experience the real Cologne, including beer, food and atmosphere, Haus Scholzen is your choice.
