While in Sofia, don't miss visiting one of the most famous farmers outdoor markets - the one in front of the beautiful building of the Ministry of Agriculture (read more about it in this article here). Usually, it takes place on Wednesdays and Fridays.
In Bulgaria, we have a really strong tradition with agriculture and a variety of handicrafts. So these kinds of events are nothing rare here. It is a chance to support small producers and the local economy. At the farmers market, you can find, buy and even taste typical Bulgarian yogurt, dairy products, eggs, honey, various types of jam, meat, all sorts of wine, and rose and lavender products. Sometimes, there are even stalls for flowers and herbs and some utility and sustainable products such as beeswax wrap paper, handmade accessories, decorations and cosmetics. Most of the time you can get freshly baked food - such as the popular banitsa or other pastries.
Last but not least, the prices are reasonable, and the quality is even better than in the common shops and the larger supermarket chains.
