The most comprehensive guide to free outdoor movie spots this summer in Vienna :)
A wide selection of films, mostly screened in OVs, awaits you at Volxkino [until September 21]. Due to changing locations not always being as crowded as other places, I still recommend arriving at least 45 minutes early to secure seats or bringing a blanket.
Nerds, where are you? Meet like-minded ones at Science Fiction im Park [June 9 - 14].
Find a pedal-powered sustainable experience at the CycleCinemaClub's.
This year, for the second time, Volxkino will stop for an extended period at Karlsplatz KARLSkino [July 7 - 20]
New additions this year are ZukunftsKino [June 25 - September 3], featuring German-language movies, as well as two silent films with English text panels, and Kino am OWA in the garden of Pavillon 9 [August 2-24]. Also, Sunset Cinema: concept and program were created by the teenagers. On 12 dates, films from the 90s and 2000s will be shown at four locations. There are also movies at the markets: Marktkino [June 26 - August 14].
Music Film Festival on Rathausplatz features concerts [June 28 - August 31]. Or come to MQ for the frameout film festival [July 18 - September 15], or - if you love architecture, head to Architektur.Film.Sommer [July 30 - August 20].
A classic is the silent movie mini-festival Stumm & Laut in August [August 21-23].
Two more noteworthy open-air cinemas with (ca. €11) admission that search engines might fail to guide you to:
Dig your toes into the sand at Herrmann Beach Bar during Silent Cinema. Or, turn your sunroof into a star-roof at Autokino to watch a drive-in movie on a Saturday night.
