The Muzeum of the Warsaw Praga district, located in a set of historical buildings near ul. Targowa and Kępna, opened on September 19th 2015. The exhibition, a Polish-Dutch cooperation, presents Praga's photos, art and history. One room is dedicated to Praga's market: Targ Praski. The whole concept presents the life of the society in Praga from the beginnings of this district up till now.
In the basement, there is some room for art from and about Praga. For example in one of the rooms there are photos from people's' houses (the idea of Dutch sociologist/artist Charlie Koolhaas). In a separate building, there is a Praga prayer house (frescoes!). The exhibition has a very specific touch to it - it can be visited starting from any point (although if you ask the staff on the stairs they will most definitely send you to the 1st floor before visiting the basement).
The museum has about 1,500 objects, some of them donated by the inhabitants of Praga (for example a great sign by one of Praga's hairdressers) and is a very lively example of cooperation between people living in an area and an institution. Until 16 October the exhibition is about photography works of Celina Osiecka.
